Tung Shan English Summer School

Report

Introduction

This is the second year of the summer school. The teaching team consists of six voluntary student teachers and an English teacher. The course ran from 19th – 29th July in a rural village in China. There were 42 students in the course. They were put into three groups. Group A comprises capable students from Primary 4 to Secondary 2, while Group B comprises less able learners from the same forms. Group C are students from Primary 1 to 3.

Goals

Assess and train up English reading skills.

Nurture English reading habit.

Expected outcome

At the end of the course:

Students can read aloud simple paragraphs fluently.

Students know how to sound out new words with phonics skills.

Students know the meanings of simple paragraphs, sentences and phrases.

Students know how to look up new words in a dictionary.

Conclusion

Last year, the course was a success. This year the course has far surpassed it, thanks to the hard work of the teaching team: Kenneth Kwok, Karen Ip, Nicole Kwan, William Leung, Theodora Lai and Candice Au.
