Special comments for 2013 陽山義工:
First of all, thank you very much for United Italian Corp. and Greenaction organization for providing such a valuable and fruitful charity opportunity for me to participate in.
It’s such a great pleasure for me to contribute and take part in this volunteer activity at 陽山. It’s actually my fourth charity visit since 2010 in 廣東省 with Greenaction organization. I was so excited to have seen those familiar faces once again!
4 days of volunteer work wasn’t having a very intensive amount of labor work considering the volume of volunteer work I have help preforming. However, the feelings for the patients had been very intensive indeed. In my memory, there was a male patient around 40-50 years old, with cataract in his right eye, asking for help as a walk-in patient. Together with this male patient was his 7 years old son. The strong feeling was not coming from the physical cataract of the male patient, but coming from how the son filially devoted to his father, he took great care of his half blinded father. Just imagine how many children who were raised in a city could be doing the same thing to his/her mother or father?
The ability to see and enjoy the world around us is a gift since we were born. We should treasure what we have and learn how to help others who were not able to enjoy it. Just start thinking about what if we were not able to see what we always want to see such as our family, love ones and the beautiful world anymore, how miserable it is? If we still have the ability to help, we should. That’s the most important concern I learned in this memorable charity activity.
Volunteer,
Tony Ngai
