2011年10月 陽山縣“扶貧復明”活動
義工感受 (2011年10月18日– 23日 )
這次跟隨力行到陽山參加白內障復明行動，不期然令我想起一年級剛進醫學院時，跟力行到連山參與同樣行動的經歷。
當時的經歷令我眼界大開，我印像最深刻的是那部價值二百萬的手術車，還有就是那為時十分鐘，卻令無數患者重見光明的白內障手術。整個行動亦令我明白到有多少人需要幫助，而我們的幫助又能為患者們帶來怎樣的改變。
這次有機會再參與，是非常難得的機會，因此出發前我已在想我到埗後有甚麼可以協助。同時我亦不斷提醒自己要細心觀察，這樣才可以不枉此行。
這一次，我看到及學到了一些很實際的事，例如病人的術前安排，從哪間房間到哪間房間等等。要從零開始去計劃，執行，到最後檢討一個完整的行動真的是很不簡單。當中不單要分工清楚，有效率，為突發事件作準備，而且還要盡可能令病者舒適一點。一定要累積了很多相關經驗才可以順利地組織一次行動，我十分欣賞力行的義工們都能夠互相配合，有經驗的義工不厭其煩地解釋每個部驟，這些都是成功的關鍵。
另一項令我印像我別深刻的是到手術室協助。之前我都有進過手術室觀察手術，但真正參與其中幫忙還是第一次。雖然我做的只是滴眼藥水，幫助病人上落手術床，和一些很簡單的儀器搬運，我已感受到手術過程需要的專注程度，以及手術團隊中合作的重要性。這次經驗可加深了我對外科的興趣呢！
雖然缺席了四天的課，可是有幸參與在令病人重見光明的團隊中，是絕對值得的！

雖然我已經參與過不少次力行的義工活動，但這次是我第一次幫忙白內障
手術的活動。其實決定要去的時候也掙扎了很久，因為這次要缺足足四天的課
才可以去得到，但現在回想，真的值得。
這次一共四天的行程，的確讓我接觸到很多不同的眼科儀器或步驟。很感
謝謝太的悉心安排，讓我們能夠參與每一個步驟，由登記、測角膜孤度、裂縫
燈、通淚管、照超聲波、洗眼等，甚至做手術的過程，我們都能夠從旁觀察學
習。也很感激醫療隊的每一員，很樂意去解答我們的問題，讓我們學習到很
多。
不過對我來說，能夠有機會學習新的知識當然有趣，但最希望的還是能夠
在當中幫忙。雖然謝太沒有特別安排工作給我們，但臨場的確很忙，所以我們
這四天也都是認真的在忙呀!其實我很喜歡幫忙每一個不同的步驟，儘管可能只
是安排公公婆婆們排隊登記、幫他們上落床等等跟”醫療”無關的，但是能夠在
他們還因為手術而很緊張、因為病痛而行動不便的時候，幫忙扶他們一下，對
他們來說已經很重要。而他們事後的笑容、多謝，術後翌日就能重見光明的喜
悅，也讓我很滿足。
除此之外，這次讓我看到要安排這樣的一個活動，真的不簡單。由登記、
檢查、預備、手術、留醫，每一個過程都有很多細碎的地方，參與的義工很
多，在安排上真的很複雜，也很需要大家的幫忙配合。幸好，我們這次都尚算
配合得很好，除了第一天比較忙亂外，之後也順利很多！
也許我沒有要籌備這樣的一個活動的能力和大志，暫時在實際醫療步驟上
也幫不上忙，但我希望的就是在每一個小步驟上幫忙，盡我有限的能力，從中
把那份關心和溫暖帶給他們！

This is my first experience with Green Action and Medical
Outreachers and I felt very fortunate to have personally witnessed many
cataract surgeries including the pre assessments and the post-check ups. Before
this trip, I have heard a lot about how Green Action was founded and the
extensive activities that is cohosted with hospitals and schools. I was
especially impressed by the set up of irrigation systems with trees; both an
economically and environmentally friendly option.
Through this trip I have learnt a lot both medically and non-medically.
I think most importantly I have learnt the logistics in organizing 150+
cataract surgeries. Apart from the actual surgical procedure which took a mere
15 minutes, there was a lot of ‘behind the scene’ work that was to be done;
from the second they are admitted and registered to the many different tests
and procedural work before the actual surgery, not to mention the post
operative measures to ensure that quality service was given to the optimum
given the resources available.
The second thing I was amazed by all the parties that were involved.
Apart from Green Action, there was the hospital itself, the medical team
recruited, the hospital staff and lastly the volunteers in green action from
both Hong Kong and local. I enjoyed working
with people from so many different backgrounds; from O&G doctors to NHS
nurses to housewives to semi retirees. It was a good opportunity for me as
a medical student since I don’t usually get to meet so many people from all
walks of life.
Lastly, I am thankful
for the wonderful hospitality green action has shown me, the good food and the
clean hotels. Hopefully I will be able to join another mission from green
action!
